Exercise: And so we are faced with a whole generation of couch potatoes, who would rather bury their heads in a soap opera or video game than get out and do some sport or read a decent book, a generation almost entirely devoid of imagination, dedicated to empty materialism, a generation that conforms slavishly t o universal fads in clothes, music and entertainment, a generation that has nothing it can hold its head up and describe proudly as being uniquely its own idea.

Dear editor,
I write with regard to the article you recently published in your newspaper regarding the opinions given about the current generation of teenage and young adults. You asked your readers to respond to the article, so this email aims to address some of the bold statements made about this generation.
To begin with, I feel that it is necessary to state that I belong to this generation of what the writer describes as unimaginative couch potatoes. There is some truth in that statement, but generalizations are never accurate and in this case, the adjectives used to describe us can be considered even hurtful. What is more, I do not consider that we fit in the mould older generations always try to fit us in. We do use a lot of technology and board games have been substituted by electronic ones. But that does not mean that we are a generation without imagination or personality as each choice we make could be considered even more difficult than the ones made 40 years ago taking into account the wide range of choices we have.
In addition, I would also like to point out that to say that we have nothing to be proud of is quite the contrary to what we really feel. Boomers can babble about how great everything was in the 80s or 90s, but the last two decades have seen the rise of some incredible inventions, music stars, writers, and even photographers.
In light of the above mentioned, the true message of that article could be one of jealousy or resentment rather than one of superiority and proudness.
Best regards,
