You have been told to write a report on the problems that you think the programme should cover. Write your report, listing the problems and describing the causes and consequences of them which you think the programme should highlight. Write your report.

Local Social Problems

The aim of this report is to provide some insight about the complex social problems that can be found in our region. To do so, it will be focused in different issues as well as their causes and consequences. 

RACISM

The history of our region has been linked with immigration since the eighteenth century. Its diversity is therefore very rich, but over the last few decades it has also been the cause of some problems. Diversity should enrich a culture, but the lack of social policies to achieve integration among the diverse ethnic groups has provoked a chain reaction. Since the last wave of immigration arrived in the 1980s, new citizens have been force to live in the city slums. The government has done close to nothing to help improve this situation and as a consequence there has been a division between the different groups of the city. The lack of social measures has led to the rise of racism and the creation of social classes. This should be fixed as the younger generations are being raised in this terrible and heartbreaking atmosphere.

EDUCATION

Centuries ago, Plato stated that education was the mirror of society. And if that statement is true, we need to do a quick makeover of our educational system as it has becoming more and more obsolete every day. Children are just learning the basic curriculum due to the implementation of the last educational law. This new program does not leave any room for creativity or imagination. Utilitarianism is not the strategy we should be following, as children are loosing their critical thinking as can be seen in the last PRISA exams in which they scored really poorly. 

To conclude, I think that in order to begin the process of improving and trying to solve our local problems, we should throw some light into the mistakes we are doing regarding the rise of racism and the poor quality of our current educational system.
